REGISTER NOW and attend the second EGEE conference in Den Haag, the Netherlands, from November 22nd to 26th. All details of this conference, registration and information on related events can be found on
http://public.eu-egee.org/conferences/2nd/. EGEE-02 will include an open day and the 1st Concertation Meeting on eInfrastructures on the first and second days of the conference. This concertation meeting is coordinated by the EGEE project in collaboration with the other INFSO RI projects, namely DEISA, SEEGRID, DILIGENT and GN2. On the following days, the conference will feature several cross-activity meetings for the EGEE project and several technical events where all EGEE project members can meet, share and discuss their experiences. The four EGEE conferences are official project deliverables and all EGEE active members are expected to attend.

Contract Amendment:
Further details and supporting documents for the EGEE contract amendment were submitted to the EU this month. This amendment is mainly intended to resolve outstanding errors in Annex 1 of the contract (Description of Work), including effort tables for the activities (manpower levels) and cost model corrections for some partners. It also includes cosmetic changes to the document, and completion of outstanding sections, for example section 9 has been added to describe the Consortium, the Joint Research Units and Third Parties involved. Three new non-contracting partners (Telefonica I&D, CSCS- Manno in Switzerland and Academia Sinica in Taiwan) have submitted proposals to contribute to EGEE's programme of work. All details of this amendment, which should conclude before the second EGEE conference, will be reported in the second quarterly report due to be completed by the beginning of November.

Dates of the First Review:
The dates of the First EGEE Review are confirmed as 9th to 11th of February 2004. The review will be held at CERN, and 5 reviewers have been appointed to attend and assess this review. A full rehearsal will be held the previous week, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of February, where all contributors will rehearse their demonstrations, presentations and contributions. Further details will be communicated in the next newsletter in November. Don't forget to add this important event to your calendar!

CERN Open Day, 16th October:
To mark the occasion of CERN's 50th anniversary, an Open Day was held on Saturday, October 16th. Fifty interactive workshops and exhibitions were held to give the public a taste of what is done at CERN. The EGEE project was represented at the "Grid Cafe" with an information stand that included a looping slide-show and distribution material. The stand was animated by the EGEE PO staff and several other EGEE/LCG members. The Open Day was attended by approximately 30,000 people.
